“Some 93% of people spend more money than they planned to when they go shopping.”  - Mary Portas

We’ve all done it at some point.  Hit the shops, gone a bit overboard and OD’d on retail therapy.  Back home you squeeze through the front door with a kaleidoscope arrangement of shopping bags looking like a fancy dress version of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman.

And then you get the look.  And then the inevitable question: “How much did all that cost?”.  At this point, while you’re trying to slip some of the smaller bags into bigger bags, you’re trying to do the mental calculation.  This usually involves halving the approximate total, knocking 30% off for ‘the sales’, but being careful not to go that low that you won’t be believed.

But you’ve got it all wrong.  What receipts should be showing is not the actual price, but the price-per-wear.  Think about it: if we wear those Louboutin’s once, then yes, we hold our hands up, they’re £350.  But even if you wear them only 30 times in your life, then it’s little more than a tenner (or just over £5 per shoe to be absolutely accurate).

So, for Leeds Shopping Week, we’ve come up with a first: Girl Receipts (think, if a certain brand of lager were to do shopping receipts, then this is what they’d do).

Below, enter what you think you might buy during the week, ie how many items, roughly what you’d normally pay for that item and typically how long you hang on to clothes.  We’ll work out a lifetime, price-per-wear cost and show you how the till receipt will look.  And if you’re coming to Leeds Shopping Week, send us your details and we’ll even print out a receipt on till paper for you to collect.

Then, when you get back home from Leeds Shopping Week – and, incidentally we have offers and bargains galore, so you won’t need to spend that much anyway – you can leave your till receipt lying round the house with complete confidence!
Enter your name and email address and a quantity for each product you might buy during Leeds Shopping Week.
Enter how long (in years) you'd usually hang on to that type of item.
Enter roughly what, on average, you'd normally pay for that item.
Hit "Submit My Receipt" and we will print you a copy to collect during Leeds Shopping Week
